6 cups of water (to cook with)
Let your beans soak in a pot of cool water overnight (at least 8 hours) with enough water to cover them all by one inch.
The next morning, rinse your beans again.
Refill the pot with the clean beans.
Add 6 cups of hot water.
Bring to a boil, once boiling, bring heat down to simmer beans 1.5 hours. You can add a little water at a time if you need too.
Once beans are cooked, drain any excess water (there should be very little).
